Nikos Kazantzakis (1883-1957), fut sans aucun doute l'auteur et le philosophe grec du 20ème siècle le plus important et le plus traduit. Il a entretenu des relations très étroites avec la France: élève d'Henri Bergson, voyageur infatigable, écrivain, il a séjourné à plusieurs reprises en France. Il a écrit plusieurs œuvres en français. et le prix Nobel de littérature lui a échappé d'une voix seulement face à Albert Camus. Il devint mondialement célèbre en 1964 lors de la sortie du film de Michael Cacoyannis film Zorba le grec, basé sur le roman dont la traduction française. |
Nikos Kazantzakis (1883-1957), was arguably the most important and most translated Greek writer and philosopher of the 20th century. He had close relations with France: a student of French philosopher Henri Bergson, traveller, writer, he sojourned in France many times. He wrote some works in French and in 1957, he lost the Nobel Prize for literature to Albert Camus by one vote. He became well known globally in 1964 with the release of the Michael Cacoyannis film Zorba the Greek, based on Kazantzakis' novel whose English translation has the same title. |
